We have 10 acres of certified organic land for vegetable, flower and fruit production. This growing season we will be using 7 acres of this land while the "extra-land” is planted in cover crops which add nutrients to the soil and is used to raise pastured poultry and pork. Our land is rotated in and out of fallow periods to break pest and disease cycles, andto let the land rest. We have two hoop houses (soon to be 3) in which we will grow early vegetables and most of the heirloom and beefsteak tomatoes you get in your box. These are unheated structures that allow us to offer broccoli, carrots, beets and more in the first weeks of June.
We concentrate of diversity in both the varieties we use and the number of plant we grew – for example last summer we grew more than 145 varieties including 24 varieties of tomatoes, 7 varieties of lettuce, and 15 varieties of winter squash. We list the species of crops below. If you are interested in a complete variety list we can provide you with one. We have a diversity of perennials including shiitake mushrooms, raspberries, blueberries, cherry, apple and pear trees, asparagus, rhubarb and grapes. Some of these are mature now and other plantings will mature between 2010-2013.
